Figbarf Friday (Give or Take a Day)

 A Whovian Figbarf (Sort Of)

I don’t write fan fiction any more, but my wretched obsessive/compulsive brain still makes me think the stuff up.  So when The Brothers Brick announced their “ChronoCon 10,000 BC” collaborative build for last year’s BrickCon, one of the first time-travel MOCs I decided to build was from the depths of my brainload of unwritten fanfic.

Taking place in the years leading up to (along with the opening years of) The Last Great Time War, the following characters are from the story of the Doctor.  But not the one you’re used to…

“The Doctor”

Phoelix von Pendragkon is a shape-shifting, time travelling con artist who decided to pull off the greatest scam in all of time and space.  After studying the legends of the most famous (/infamous) of all the Time Lords of Gallifrey, he selected the perfect wardrobe (complete with hat, purple scarf, and question-mark emblazoned jacket), made some new friends that were willing to travel, and got himself a transport that appeared to be nothing more than a big blue wooden box.

Said transport is a dual-transmat landing pod covered in wooden panels and decorated with question marks and the words “Authority Box” in psychic paint, lending it readability in all languages.  Phoelix’s massive cloaked starship has a transmat pad that teleports the landing pod to the surface, then teleports anyone who steps onto the pad through the pod’s door, making it seem for all the world like it’s a massive vehicle crammed inside of a box that’s bigger on the inside.

Armed at all times with a sonic multitool and a pocket full of gel-candies, “the Doctor” travels throughout time and space, helping people out when a minimal effort will do so, and outright scamming people into believing they’ve been rescued from horrible fates.  Unlike the real Doctor, Phoelix accepts rewards for the deeds he does.  He’s raking in a fortune, and is never bored.

Gretchah

Gretchah is a member of one of the universe’s various felinoid races.  Rescued from a planet under Cybermen attack because she fit Phoelix’s profile of ‘sexy alien girl’, she is completely loyal to “the Doctor”, and unaware that he’s not really the Time Lord of legend.

She’s a natural hand-to-hand combat expert, one with nature, and more than just a little naïve.

SCOUT

Phoelix’s original “Doctor” companion is a robot dog he had built, based on the Jalovian Springfighting Hound.  Often underestimated as a simple quirky petbot, SCOUT is packed with processing power and his chassis is brimming with extendable gadgetry.  His capacity for speech is typically utilized only when he and Phoelix are alone.  Otherwise, he communicates with electronic barks and growls.  He has absolutely no issues with Gretchah, but has adopted an antagonistic attitude towards her because it seemed like the right thing to do.  Cats and dogs, you know.

Erwin the Ood

The final member of “the Doctor’s” crew is his manservant, Erwin.  “The Doctor” actually won Erwin in a card game.  Which suited the Ood just fine, as the large spaceship masquerading as the Authority Box interior is a much larger dwelling to clean than his previous owner’s household, and “the Doctor” has more needs to be tended to than the average individual.

Lord Guzarmil

Sent out from Gallifrey to investigate conflicting reports of “the Doctor’s” interference when none of the resulting scans pick up signs of the Doctor’s bio-imprint, the Time Lord Guzarmil sees this Doctor impersonator as a mystery – and less a serious investigation than an entertaining hobby.

Cor Ta

Cor Ta is the former chief of security at Throrgenal Station, fired when an object that con-man Phoelix failed to steal twice before the legendary “Doctor” finally made off with it.  He has his suspicions about the connection between the two men, and has placed small bounties on the heads of both Phoelix and the Doctor to satisfy his Judoon sense of the law.  With a bounty officially placed on his-or-their heads, he is fully justified in his decision to become a bounty hunter to track them down.
